Accessibility
Digital accessibility ("Web Accessibility") enables all people to use websites, webshops, documents and apps regardless of limitations, disabilities or age.
From mid-2025 accessibility will be mandatory for many corporate websites and apps. Websites and apps of federal institutions have to be accessible since 2019.
Characteristics of Web Accessibility
The main features of accessible digital services are:
- Content is clearly structured
- Content has sufficient contrast
- Meaningful alternative text for images
- Full operability with the keyboard only
- Captions for videos

Importance for your Business
Accessible websites are significant for many reasons:
- Wider reach, as your services become accessible to many more people.
- Improvement of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) due to structured content, alternative text and website load time.
- Legal compliance, the Austrian Accessibility Act (opens in a new tab) will come into effect on June 28, 2025.
- Enhanced user experience (usability).
- Enhancement of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) both externally and internally (employees with disabilities)
Steps towards an Accessible Website
Web Accessibility „Quick-Check“
Our quick test of your website by manual tests and common tools provides an initial overview of required measurements:
- Analysis of the template structure and selection of subpages to be tested
- Manual review with the support of suitable tools on:
- Perceivability (contrast, fonts, page structure, links, multimedia, etc.)
- Operability (keyboard operation, navigation, forms, etc.)
- Understandability (language, abbreviations, error messages, etc.)
- Robustness (e.g., status messages of the website)
Complete Accessibility Audit
Our complete audit of your website is done according to the international WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.2 standard and includes the following steps:
- Definition of the scope (e.g., sub-areas of the website, web applications, specific documents, etc.)
- Analysis of the website structure and functionality (definition of page types, presentation, as well as technologies used and particularly important pages for accessibility)
- Selection of pages to be tested based on the results from point 2. The goal is to cover all used page types, functionalities, and web technologies.
- Expansion of the selection through randomly chosen pages (approximately 10% of the selection).
- Testing of the selected web pages for WCAG 2.2 compliance, usually at compliance levels A and AA
Result of the Audit
All examination steps and results are documented in a structured report format. You will receive
- PDF and HTML status reports that are traceable, including screenshots and code examples
- A manual for editors for further compliant content maintenance
- Consultation on editorial and technical questions
- Suggestions for optimizing web pages
The examination results provide important decision basis whether to create a new website or to adjust an existing non-accessible website or CMS (Content-Management-System). We estimate the effort for the options or make an offer for the technical resolution of major conformity issues.
After Implementation
Accessibility in web or app projects should always be considered and implemented from the very beginning, even if your company is not directly affected by legal regulations (see Importance for your Business).
When updating your website’s content the guidelines in the editor’s manual must be considered to maintain the achieved accessibility status. Typically affected topics include formatting, contrasts, image descriptions, links and uploaded documents.
„Accessibility as a Service“
We offer optionally „Accessibility as a Service“ in several variations. This way, you no longer have to worry about the topic of „accessibility“ and we ensure that your site remains permanently accessible.
Complete Content Management
We adopt all content updates on your website adhering to WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) compliance.
- Plus: Content is fully managed by us
- Plus: No training effort required for editors
- Minus: Additional communication effort (transmitting texts and media to us)
- Minus: Ongoing costs depending on the effort needed
Recurring Checks
You continue to maintain content yourself and engage us for accessibility checks as needed. The effort is significantly less than, for example, a Complete Accessibility Audit, as only the differences from the last version need to be checked.
- Plus: Editorial workflow remains unchanged
- Plus: Checks only as needed or on suspicion
- Minus: Erroneous content may remain online longer
- Minus: Ongoing costs for internal training
