Databases

We develop custom database solutions tailored to your requirements and adaptable at any time. Depending on complexity creating a detailed specification and prototype will be required. Your feedback is directly incorporated into the development process.

Databases are an ideal replacement for commonly used MS Excel (Microsoft Excel, opens Wikipedia in new tab) applications, which may have become prone to errors over time.

A typical technical structure for a database solution consists of a database server and multiple clients accessing the server as a shared data source.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Custom database solutions offer numerous advantages over tools like MS Excel (Microsoft Excel) but also come with certain drawbacks:

  • Plus: Centralized data storage eliminates versioning problems
  • Plus: Business rules ensure data consistency
  • Plus: Fine grained access control rules with groups and roles
  • Plus: Traceability of updates
  • Minus: One-time costly implementation depending on the systems complexity
  • Minus: Familiar features of spreadsheets are difficult to implement

Use Cases

  • Centralized management of products, customers or inventory
  • Order management with automated quotation and invoicing
  • Measurements data management with statistics and reporting functionality

Technical Solution

By default, database and user interfaces are installed on separate machines. The database server may be set up redundantly to prevent downtime. Clients are available on office PC’s (via web browser or MS Access clients).

We support the following database systems:

We have also implemented numerous database clients using MS Access (opens in a new tab).

Migration from Legacy Systems

If your old database system is no longer reliable or supported, migrating to a new system is often more economical than developing a new solution from scratch. We handle planning and execution of the migration to a modern database system, including data transfer and testing environments.

One significant advantage is the time saved compared to creating a new requirements specification, as functionality is already documented in the legacy system.
